Hello:

I am trying to configure solaris on my system to send email. The functionality that I want to achieve is to have a java application running on the system use sendmail to send email to outside world. this java appl will run as a solaris user, but is web based application that will be used to send email after a form is filled out. Email has to be sent to multiple addresses and multiple domains

Configuration and setup:

1. Solaris host is behind a NAT (domain1.com)
2. host resolves to http://domain2.com
3. host also resolves to host.domain1.com (automatic since behind domain1.com firewall)
4. internally, host also responds to private internal IP

Right now, sending email says:
Relaying denied, IP name lookup failed [Public IP of NAT/Firewall here]

What settings should I have in my
/etc/hosts
/etc/mail/local-host-names for this to work ?

I apologize if this sounds complicated than it should be, but that is precisely why I need the help !

I must also add that both host.domain1.com and domain2.com respond to a commmon public IP.

Therefore, we have
Public IP of NAT/Firewall: xx.xx.xx.200
Public IP for host.domain1.com and http://domain2.com : xx.xx.xx.201
Public IP for www.domain1.com xx.xx.xx.201

Hope that helps

Your error message is saying that the public IP address of your router does not resolve to a hostname and as such is not trusted as a mail host. Find a DNS provider to assign a hostname to that IP address.

I can rephrase this question.

I am trying to send email from a local solaris machine that has an external public address (resolves to a dns) and also behind a Firewall/NAT.

When I send email, using sendmail -- the mail carries the NATTED IP Address with it -- to resolve which, the traffic hits my Firewall/IP and my firewall does not have a public A/PTR record. -- therefore I get a IP name lookup failed.

How can I get the email to go out with the public address of my solaris server so that the reverse name lookup does not fail.
