Dear people:
My ISP gave me one static IP address, in order to get Internet, it's a cable modem connection. I set up the Solaris 7 networking files in ordern to connect to Internet.Assuming one of my IP is 200.0.0.2 I do this:
/etc/hosts/200.0.0.2 ale (separated by a Tab)
/etc/inet/hosts/200.0.0.2 ale (separated by a Tab)
/etc/resolv.conf --- domain ale.com.ar
nameserver x.x.x.x
nameserver y.y.y.y.
/etc/nsswitch.conf --- hosts: dns files
/etc/defaultrouter --- 200.0.0.1 (my default gateway)Then I reboot and hme0 is Up and running....but I have no Internet.
I test in a WXP machine with the IP and MAC of my Solaris and I get connected to Internet.
I have no IP Filter firewall rules...so I ask you: is my /etc/files configuration good enough ??? Or what ???
Thanks, Alejandro

Try the following
echo ale > /etc/hostname.hme0
ping 200.0.0.1
netstat -rPlease let us know the results.
