I'm getting the following message when I try to install from CD1:

The disk may need labelling. Use the format command to label the partitions then try booting again. If the problem still appears, it is likely that the disk is corrupt.

What kind of system is this? Have you checked you cd on another system?
It looks like the disk may be hosed. If you could put it in another system (as a second device) and boot up, you may be able to use format to label it. The way nrc suggested looks like it would have to be booted anyway, and that appears to be your present problem.
