Hi,
We just bought a Sun v480 server without a terminal. I will need to install Solaris 9 on the server. I'm planning to use a laptop to connect to the server for the installation. I have ideas on how it should work. But I would like more information on how to connect the laptop to talk to the server. Does anyone know of any documentation that I can use. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen that specific documentation. But I was wondering if there's anything more specific for laptops.

connect serial cable from laptop serial connector to server serial connector. on laptop use hyper termianl or secureCRT (better). set serial port communication paramaters as in PDF. power on server; it should default communicating on serial ttya port w/o monitor/keboard/mouse present. You should get to the OK prompt from which you can execute "boot cdrom" and what-not...
hope it helps...

Does anybody know what terminal type to use when connecting via COM/Serial to the SPARC box with HyperTerminal? I've tried "PC Console" but it doesn't completely work right.
