First of all I don't use Solaris or Sparcs very often so bear with me please. I am trying to install Solaris 9 on an Ultra 10 with an existing version of Solaris 8 installed. I will be attempting to do a full install of Solaris 9 instead of an upgrade from 8.
If I do an init 0 from the existing OS and then do a boot cdrom it begins booting. it takes awhile before I get the first message:
WARNING: timeout: reset target chno = 1 targ = 2
It continues to chug along and eventually produces the following error messages:
failed to install "power" driver
vn_rdwr failed with error 0x5
c2audit error reading sectionsI haven't let it get any further than that.
Trying it a different way - I just do a stop-A when it begins to boot and type boot cdrom. It looks like it begins to initialize but then flashes an error so fast that I can only pick up a few words and reboots. The message says something about "panic" and "mount."
I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have any soft partitions on your existing disk? If so what is the size of the soft partition's raw device?

I don't know if this is really what you are asking for but my partitions are:
0 /proc
480815 /
495462 /usr
0 /dev/fd
240399 /var
7333149 /opt
302688 /tmpThe numbers are the total size in K. I have not partitioned the disk any further.
I put in a Solaris 7 CD I had and it started into the install fine - so I think that rules out a hardware issue.
