Solaris 9 hme0 won't come up

Have an old UltraSparcIIi with a built on hme adapter. When running FreeBSD or Linux the NIC works like a dream. When booting with Solaris9 the nic appears to be up from the machine, but can't ping out or recieve pings and the light on my hub just blinks occaisionally. Tried a few different hubz. Tried setting the NIC down to 10mbps Half-duplex, no dice. Any ideas on why this thing won't come up? Ifconfig shows it's up...

Verified tonight that the nic will light up a switch or hub until Sol9 inits the card, then it goes out. Did a sys-unconf and the light stayed on until it was time to configure hme0...
