Thank you in advance... I "think" I have my
nic and files setup right, but I can't ping
outside localhost. I connect to to a NT4
DNS server for local network and router to
get to internet. I can ping localhost but
can't ping outside or intranet "no answer from IP#" is all I can seem to get. Tried
reinstalling using the variuos methods and
edited every file that has to do with it:
defaultdomin,defaultrouters,hosts,nsswitch,
hostname.drv,resolve(and resolv),netmasks.
I am stuck with no where to go. If ya have
any idea please send me an email.
By the way I'm using Sol8 for IA using a
3com509b (10mb) nic. I am setting up a static IP
using the 192.168 scheme. I have followed
the step by step guides, searched all
relative docs (and non) for two weeks with
the same problem. every NIC I try seems to
get me to the same point. I have it sitting
on my desk through a HUB so I can see it
attempt to connect to 'something' but nothing
comes back but the tired old message "no
answer from IP#".Carey Kelly

If you're still having a problem -- I may be able to help you out. Have you tried pinging any other machines that are on the same subnet as the machine you are trying to setup? Have you setup any other Solaris systems that are working? If you can send me the files you mentioned in your description I can take a look at them for you.

Thanxx Jon,
First of all. I took the NIC I had out
and put in a 3c905btxlm into the system
then I hooked it directly to the switch I
use. Everything was cake from there. But, if ya have any idea how to get
Internet Explorer on a Solaris 8 1/01 os 5.8
(mouthfull isn't it) to work I would be
gratefull. When I try to run it, it just
tells me an error in line 1 with a "(".
Or anyone else that has an idea. I've read
everywhere that it can't be done yet, but
I'm a show me kinda guy. So I'm trying all
the patches I can find to see a difference
in the error code ( I can always reinstall)Thanxx all in advance...

Repaly2) spray ipaddress or hostname
