solaris 8 patch problems

hi. i just recently installed solaris 8 x86 and downloaded the patch cluster from sun's site. however, when i run the install_cluster script, it says the patches failed to install. every patch results in a return code 1 and says the patch directory is not valid.

Hi, I just recentry intalled solaris 8 but the plattform was SPARC.
Are you sure that the downloaded-patch is for Solaris 8? Are you running install_cluster how root? Are you sura that you have free disk space?

hello. yea, the patch was for solaris 8 x86. i have an intel pentium 4 machine btw. i have a 20 gig hd dedicated to solaris...so should be plenty of space. i tried installing the patch by logging on as root and running the install_cluster file.

patch info is stored in /var/sadm
do a showrev -p and make sure you see the installed patches.
and check /var/sadm for existence, permissions, etc..

DO NOT UNZIP the x_x_Recommended.zip file into a dir that is "dos based" e.g "my patches". Spaces or maybe other symbols, cause problems...
I think that's the reason you are told that the dir is not valid.
