Solaris 8 on Sparcstation 20

Hi everyone,

Sorry, but I am a newby with Solaris, but I am trying to install Solaris 8 on a Sparcstation 20. When I try to boot from the installation-disk the CD-ROM drive's LED shows activity, but the system does not boot, it keeps telling me 'Can't open boot device'
So whats wrong ?

May be you don't use boot disk, just insert Software 2 of 2 disk, so this maybe the reason?

Try to boot from Solaris 8 Installation CD

Try checking CDROM drive is detected by base unit. Especially if external.

Key 'Stop A' together,
Go to command mode OpenProm and type
'probe-scsi-all' enter.
Should display list of hardware detected.
If it hangs - reboot

Make sure your cdrom drive is on scsi id6 and that it supports 512k byte sectors(there should be a jumper at the rear)

Just a tip - it's always a good idea to do

STOP+A
reset
[wait for system to start coming back up]
STOP+A
probe-scsi all

This way you don't get the lockup (which can sometimes only be fixed by pulling the power cord out).
