I am having a problem with post-installation of Solaris 8 on Intel. I get a funny error. My desktop background appears all black and my Windows are skewed to the right hand side of the screen. It has got nothing to do with the Monitor Horizontal or Vertical Alignment. It is just that the screen is "sucked" in to the right hand side and I actually chose the generic VGA for IBM and tried with resolutions of 600 x 400 / 800 x 600, with 256 colours and 16M colours. All did not help. My graphic card is Creative Graphics Blaster Riva TNT 2 Value (I chose the TNT / TNT2 option). I tried playing with kdmconfig but it didn't help either. Anyone with a solution? Any form of help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like an x-windows server problem. I had a similar experience when i first installed solaris. Setting up my network, and specifically putting a qualified host name in /etc/hosts fixed it.
