Has anyone experience with Solaris 8 on an 32Mb Intel-based PC? I know about circumventing graphical install+configuration, and wanted to know about how such setup would perform as a character-based (traditional, curses, whatever..) Unix terminal for mainly a C environment and Tex-formatting.
The Sun licensing is much more attractive than any other commerical Unix, so I want to use it.

I did install Solaris 8 on PI-200MMX with 32 Meg, entire distribution option. but never really worked on it except login and adding few users and a printer. to tell you the truth, system performance was sluggish, and after few bootups, it was unable to start CDE and for few min. of flashes on the screen all I was able to get, was command line which was working. so I was still able to do few configuration changes using vi.

that all I call tell you, bcz later we installed win95 on it and used it as a client for experimentation :)

The CDE is entirely out of the question- I found out fast enough. I'm only interested in using it as a command-line OS, so I'm hoping 32 will suffice. My mainboard takes only PC-66 RAM, and both slots are occupied by 16MB cards, an upgrade would then cost about $100 Cdn and I have other priorities now. Too bad Sun won't release Sol 7 under the same agreement which has more reasonable system requirements...
