I'm currently setting up a lab with 15 solaris 8 machines. I've got 1 NIS server working for authentication. The server also nfs shares the home directories. My problem is within X-windows CDE. I'm unable to view properties of files I should have rwx permissions on. I beleive this is also causing the default font to change and a help viewer pops up with an error message. I've removed the lines from the sys.session files but this help viewer still comes up with a dtintro error. If the same user logs on to the server where the files are local then we see no errors at all. Any idea's? Thoughts? Thanks Steve

1. NIS password file (server side) for users must have /home/userid as home directory not /export/home/userid 2. Try a text based login from the client to see what is where. 3. The userid must NOT exist on client. Otherwise we can end up with the numeric userid not matching. 4. Is the automounter working properly?? On the client try.. #ls -al /home/userid #mount you should see the contents of the users home dir and the remote mount from the NFS server for that users home dir. 5. Set permissions for the share in /etc/dfs/dfstab 6. Goodluck

Thanks for your comments... I've finally sorted it... It ended up being that the mount point on the client before mounting the nfs share needs to have 755 permissions. Bugger!
