I've been trying to install the Intel version of Solaris 8 on my P233MMX PC and I am getting the folloging error: "Could not mount file system" Can someone please tell me how I can correct this problem. Thankx.

did you let solaris set up the slices and did how did you set up the slices (default). how about maybe a incompatiable controller. i am just throwing out posabilites. also how about maybe a badsector on the disk that a critical part of the filesystem is sitting on. you might want to fdisk the drive with the fdisk /mbr switch could have a hosed MBR
oh well hope some of this helps

well, don't use the installation CD.. and
use first cd of the two (sun software) that
is where the core os is. installation cd is
a piece of trash s**t... well, i found that out
right after i put back win2k demos...
hehe... who like microsoft>? bla...

Yes, I am using the 1st of the two CD's. Thanks for the help guys. I'll try some of this stuff and see what happens.

I am having the same problem as everyone else. I will try to explain in details the trouble I am having.
Hardware: PII 233, 128MB Ram, 6GB HD
1. Use a clean HD (did one w/ formatted HD, and one w/ no partition)
2. Configured BIOS to boot off CD Rom
3. Used Solaris 8 Installation CD (based on instructions provided by SUN)
4. Did all the basic driver look up and stuff (used F2 to continue)
5. Marked to load OS from CD Rom
6. Installations begins, and I get a PANIC, can not mount, and the pc reboots.Any suggestions? I know all the hardware is good. Just to test, I did the same thing using a W2k Server cd, and it worked fine. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Dudes (and dudettes): Send back the "free" Solaris 8 and get Linux. If not, search the web for the "Ranish Disk". Its only for x86's and is a hell of alot better than fdisk. It'll show you and let you modify your partitions. It can run without an OS too.

When I installed Solaris on my PIII,128,20GB(IST HDD),4.1(2NDHDD) WITH intel 815eea intel original board, error initially flashed is APCI TABLE NOT IN RECLAIM MEMORY. SUBSEQUENTLY THE INSTALLATION WENT WELL and I could not get color display when using solaris. My onboard video is AGP. I request you whether there any drivers for video and audio devices. If any body have them please give the address or attach them to my mail psnkumar9_2000@yahoo.com

I'm also having problems installing solaris 8. First error i get is :
pcic_init_assigned: no available property for pcmcia. The rest of the installation went okay but i do not have the video card information for my compaq armada 7800. The display is half of my screen sixe (13") which is very irritating. Does anybody know how i can correct this?
