Howdy folks,

Currently I have a dual booting win2k/linux box with two hard drives (one os on each). I want to put Solaris on the linux drive. I burned the ISO's and boot from the install cd, then it says select where to install the kernel. My hard drive is not allowed, so I install on/from the cd rom. It starts "Web starter" and then says there is no valid place to put it.

What do I need to do? Format the linux box? I would think solaris should be able to format it when it installs.

Do I need to format/ partition it? Or what, anyone with Intel Sol 8 help!

Thanks,

Justin Redus

I think u may not have enough unallocated sapce on your linux HD. When u partition your HD u usually partition almost all of it except a few megs ie. my Windows XP: 9.5gigs of the 10 gigs
So what u need to do is to get Partition MAgic, cause this allows u to resize partitions wothout losing data, and resize your linux so there is enoguh unallocated space for your Solaris.
ex. if your Linux was on a 20gig, and took 19gigs of space change it so it only takes 10gigs. This 'll leave 10 gigs for solaris to install into. This should fix your problem.

I think that the best design is to format the linux box or windows one - on your choice.
I have following OSs on one HDD (20Gb)
Linux
OpenBSD
Win2k
Solaris8
(without additional boot managers)
Note: when install solaris after linux - it will see the linux swap partition as its native UFS one. I thik its a main problen in case you discrabed.

I'm currently using windows 2000 professional and trying to install Solaris 8 intel version as my secondary choice of OS. I'd like to get information about making dual boot on the same HD.

I have installed Solaris 8 (7/01). Despite I made a Solaris type partition of 1.5gig (I have a 8gig HDD), Solaris has occupied all the disk. Now, I need to install Windows NT but, first, I have to resize Solaris partition. Can I resize it from Solaris without losing data?.

If I couldn't I would like to know how I must install Solaris 8 OS keeping free space.
