Hi there,
I am trying to install Solaris 8 on Intel P4 machine which already has windows 2000 Server. I partitioned well with 12GB for W2K and 8Gb for Solaris.I prepared the DCA (Device Configuration Assistant) boot disk and rebooted the system with Solaris Disk 1. The procedure went on smoothly viz.,
1. scanning and identifying my hardware for installation.
2. Setting the default boot device thru boot-task screens, view/edit autoboot settings screen etc.,.
3. Finally it returns to Boot solaris screen with CD option highlighted. Now the actual problem started, it prompted me well by showing the installation choices:
1. Solaris Interactive
2. Custom Jumpstartand when I enter "1" and hit "enter" it reboots again with DCA and repeats the process. I am not sure WHY AM I HAVING A HARD TIME INSTALLING THIS SOLARIS OS?
I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with a solution. If possible forward me a detailed list of instructions about the installation with your valuable suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Ram

In a complete CD-set are 3 discs, sol8- install, sol8-software1 and sol8-software2. Put the "install" disc in your wastebin or wherever, don't use it. Software1 is bootable and the one to use for interactive installation, in fact the only working alternative. You should also take a close look at the Hardware Compatibility List, e.g. my HighPointTech370 chip is not recognized by Sol and I have to by an other motherboard or run Sol on an IDE33-disc.
Good luck
