I am trying to install Solaris 8 on a Sparc Ultra 30 i recieved. It is currently running SunOS 5.5.1.

When i attempt to boot from the Solaris Install CD i get the following errors:

Drive Not Ready
Can't Read Disk Label
Can't Read Disk Label Package
Evaluating: Boot cdrom
Can't open boot device

After which the sever boots up normally, with the CD mountd.

Any suggestions???

have you tried using disk 1 rather than the install disk? AFAIK, the install disk is a piece of junk

We solved the problem. It wasn't the CD's at all. Seems the SCSI ID of the CDROM needs to be set at 6 to be bootable.

Go figure..........
