I forgot my password to solaris 2.6, so I just wiped the drive clean because I was goign to load solaris anyway. Well now all the Ultra 1 says is something about bad magic label and then just keeps on repeating on and on the message:
"
Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP Packet
Lost carrier (transciever cable problem?)
Cable problem or twisted pair hub link-test disabled.
Use the PROM command "help ethernet" for more information
"And it just keeps on repeating that over and over again. It never goes to a prompt.
How can I make it boot off of the solaris retail 8 CD(not a CDR copy) or atleast make it boot off of the 2.6 floppy so I can get something loaded again!?!
Thanks!

At the obp boot prompt, type 'boot cdrom'. The message about arp/rarp timeout is probably because the current boot order is looking for a network boot server.
You have a floppy disc drive in an ultra 1? I would doubt if it supports this as a boot device.

But thats just the problem, it doesnt go to a prompt. It just keeps on repeating that same message over and over again and will NOT let me get to a prompt. Is there any special keys I can press or anything that will stop the message and let me get to a prompt?
Thanks.

Hold down the stop and A keys together to get to the obp prompt. If you are doing this through a terminal, check to see what sequence sends a "BREAK".

As far as the bad magic label, when you boot can boot the cdrom after doing the "stop and A" at the same time from the OK prompt do a boot cdrom -sw, when you get to the # prompt run a format and it will complain about the bad magic label, pick the disk in question it will ask you to label it say yes and you should be fine. From there do a "stop A" and boot cdrom and install.

THANK YOU!!!!!
The stop + A key worked, it sees the solaris 8 CD and is starting to boot up.
Thank you all!
