I've been left a Solaris 8 server to admin at a university, and have been having some issues. I've been able to fix most of them, but one is sticking around and I was hoping for some help.
For whatever reason, the machine will sometimes lose it's connection to the internet. This is not good, since people use the server on campus. ;)
I am currently using DHCP; the network guys on campus have given me a DHCP reservation.
Machine boots, grabs an IP address, detects it's hostname correctly and all is well for a few days. Then it will lose it's connection. I suspect that when the lease expires, we are not grabbing a new DHCP. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Below are some log files which lead me to believe it a problem with requesting a lease:
Dec 18 01:08:38 bioinformatics /sbin/dhcpagent[28]: [ID 743801 daemon.warning] dhcp_rebind: lease on ce0 expires in less than 60 seconds!
Dec 18 01:09:28 bioinformatics /sbin/dhcpagent[28]: [ID 929444 daemon.warning] configure_if: no IP broadcast specified for ce0, making best guessI see several (3) instances of the "making best guess" line in /var/adm/messages over the last 3 days but only one "lease expires".

I kind of doubt that is the issue but you can set the least to forever and see if that fixes it.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
