Comment:
I installed solaris 8 on a windows machine using Virtual PC 2004. It installed ok at first but could not get an ip from my dhcp server using the NIC directly. I then setup Solaris 8 using Virtual PC 2004 using NAT for the network and I got and IP and i can ping the gateway, and other computers on the network but still cannot get to the web. It says unresolved names. Also i do not have a hostname yet. Can anyone help. thank you.

add your hostname to the file /etc/hostname. if your host is a part of domain add your domain name to file /etc/defaultdomain.
add the ip for /etc/hostname.interface to the file /etc/hosts add gateway ip to /etc/defaultgateway. or leave it empty and add default route to routing table. route -nv add -inet 0.0.0.0 yourgateway good luck..
