Hey, I recently set up a box with Solaris 10, and i'm trying to get it to go on the internet.. I've looked at many other network problem discussions.. and I have tried pretty much everything that has been mentioned on this site, but my machine still won't connect to the internet. I have tried pinging adresses posted, and tried opening ftp to my website server, and all i get is "unknown host or invalid literal address" I'm sure that my /etc/hosts file and /etc/defaultrouter file and all those things are set correctly.. i tried ndd -set /dev/ip ip_forwarding 1, which, after doing that, I actually received packets from an ip i saw on here, but after that nothing.. I have a netgear router for my cable internet, and my winxp boxes take to it fine, and before i reinstalled solaris on the computer, the internet actually worked, but it doesnt anymore.. if anyone has anything, please let me know thx!! ~Joe

FOLLOWUP!!: Okay, I kind of messed this one up, I AM connected to the internet now, I can ping and everything.. nslookup works, but I believe i need to set up my DNS, and i'm not quite sure what to set it to, so if anyone can help me out with that, it would be awesome! thanks! ~Joe

lol.. well.. nevermind.. i figured it all out.. for anyone that has comcast cable internet, and has problems with connecting to the internet through a router, here is what I did: obviously make sure that your /etc/hosts and /etc/defaultgateway are set correctly after that, you make your /etc/resolv.conf file, and add these 2 lines nameserver (primary dns) nameserver (secondary dns) the 2 servers i use are 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 there are many other dns servers available for comcast, and you can find them through a simple google search but those two work fine for me. then i did: cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf in order to set the nsswitch.conf file to use dns, you can just edit the .conf file, but i find this way a little easier.. that should be all now, so you can either restart your computer or do /etc/init.d/inetsvc stop /etc/init.d/inetsvc start now you should have a properly working dns hope it helps if anyone needs it.. lol
