Hi everyone, I just installed solaris 10 and am trying to connect it to the internet. My place has cable internet.
I want to add my ip address to the /etc/hosts file, but when I do a "hostname | nslookup", then "ifconfig -a" to find out my ip address the terminal reads "connection timed out; no servers could be reached".

I have not done anything else to connect this laptop to the internet, so if I'm mising something really obvious please let me know.

To connect a Solaris 10 machine to your network, I believe you only need to add your ip address to /etc/hosts. ifconfig -a should just list your interface configuaration settings....i.e. IP, Mask, GW, bcast etc....Make sure you have your Cable ISP DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf and have your default route set in /etc/defaultrouter for your ISP or router you are using. Can also add it manually using route add default <IP>, also if you want DNS to work, make sure you cp /etc/nsswitch.dns to /etc/nsswitch.conf Good luck.
