Hi,
Since more than a week we are facing a serious problem with one of our Sun Workstations (UltraSparc 2), using Solaris 2.5.1. It keeps rebooting continiously untill I halt the system with . On the net I found some information about similar problems, caused by a missing link (bd.off => /dev/term/b) I looked at these links (the only way I could make a single user boot, was by booting from the Solaris CDROM!!!) and in fact it is missing, but it is not the only one which is missing. The link from /dev/term/b => /devices/... is missing too, as well as the link /dev/term/a => /devices/... I tried to fix those links, but I didn't succeed. So I still don't know if this is (part of) my problem. The only error message I receive (just before the system continues rebooting) is: "panic[cpu0]/thread=0x10402040 read_binding_f" I tried to look in the manuals and on the net for more information, but without any luck! So if one of you would have any idea of what the problem might be, please reply. I, and my collegues, will be very grateful!! Thank you very much in advance and hope to hear/read something soon :-)
Friendly greetings,
Boud

boot from CD-ROM...
and repair the file systems...
probably '/etc' or '/usr' filesystem on the disk has some b-sectors or related...
and is unable to extract some configurations...

First of all: thanx for your reaction!
I followed your advice and tried to repair the file systems. I checked the filesytems with fsck -m /dev/dsk/devicename (Remark devicename = c0tXd0sY, with X = 0,1,3,4 or 6 and Y = 0 -> 7)
I received several error messages: e.g. cannot seek: BLK ... cannot read: blk ... following sectors could not be read ... and also BAD SUPER BLOCK: ...
I tried to fix this last error (fsck -F ufs -o b=# /dev/dsk/devicename, with # = alternate block number) but without any luck.
Then I looked at de vfstab file (more /etc/vfstab) and it seems that most of my filesystems are missing. Is this a problem? Can this be the reason for the error messages? Is it possible that I have to mount all the filesystems? If yes, how?
Or have you any other idea what the problem might be? And how to fix this?Thanks again for your help or any other help!!! I still have faith!
Friendly greetings,
Boud
