Comment:

try to install a secondary IDE disk on Ultra 10. I realize the jumper setting on the primany one is "cable". what does that mean? Here was what I've done.

primany disk jumper secondary disk jumper
cable cable
master slave
cable slave
master cable

Looks like none of them works for me.
What should be the right way?
Many thx!

cable means "cable select" ie the position on the cable sorts out which master and which is slave. Do remember that the CD will need to
be set too.
A simple approach is to disconnect power from
both disks and the CD. Then do a test with
just ONE device turned on

ok setenv auto-boot? false
ok reset

ok probe-ide

The probe confirms which disks and CDs are
visible.

For each test power off /on the sparc and
then issue probe command.

If you try with one disk only
then the other disk only and the the CD only
you will see the effective IDs of each - and
see if any conflict.

0 - master on 1st
1 - slave on 1st cable
2 - master on 2nd cable
3 - slave on 2nd cable

Sun has a document specifically about installing a 2nd drive
