query about group-write permissions

When the sgid bit is set on a directory, it makes any files and directories subsequently created within that directory take on the same group ownership as the parent directory. What I would like to know is if there is any way to cause newly-created files and directories to automatically inherit their group PERMISSIONS from the parent directory as well. Does anybody know if such a thing is feasible? Thanks a lot.
