Pros - Simple and stable.

Cons - Like any unix os, not simple nor easy to administer.

I personally think Solaris is MUCH easier to administer than other OS's such as Linux.

However, one problem with Solaris is that if you're running SPARC, then the hardware can be quite expensive. I can not say that I'm too keen on the intel version, at least with SPARC versions, there is very little hardware troubleshooting that's needed as it's mostly inherently supported by the OS.

If you're looking for an alternative to Intel solaris then I'd suggest maybe FreeBSD/NetBSD.
