Hello guys,
Like most of the guys who asked on this page, i have downloaded the Solaris 8 binaries from Sun. Now would someone please lead me through the steps needed to create the CDs? In detail please....i have gone through the other postings and each one assumes other parts are known!
Thanks, in advance, to all of the nice helpful guys out there :o)
Regards,
Ahmed

x-x Unzip the archives.
x-x Add ".iso" to each of these archives. If you burn it on a PC:
Use EasyCDCreator and just burn it.
You can use nero (www.nero.com),
don't change any of the default settings
and burn. (First test on the first archive)On your UNIX system.
Use the app provided with the Application CD
:-)
(I've never done it on unix in fact...)Gab

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Easy CD creator can burn a bootable cd from a .iso disk image. I tried this when I downloaded Linux and it did not work. Nero was able to do it but you have to choose the bootable cd option for it to work.

I've been trying to work out how exactly to "just burn the .iso files" with Adaptec EasyCDCreator. This has given me and my friends here major headaches all weekend. EasyCDCreator gives us the option of creating a "bootable CD" by selecting it from the "NEW" pulldown item on the top menu. We then need to provide a floppy disk that should presumably contain files such as "autoexec.bat" and "config.sys" and drivers for the CD drive etc. Now, according to my understanding, these files are associated with DOS and troubleshooting a Windows installation, as opposed to just making the downloaded Solaris 8 installation CDs bootable. Should we "just burn" the .iso files and not include the BOOTCAT.BIN and stuff that EasyCDCreator adds when we select "bootable CD" option? The Solaris8 documentation page has been referenced in this discussion forum as "very clear and obvious", but seems to just refer us to the documentation for EasyCDCreator. EasyCDCreator help is very unhelpful, just saying this is an operation for advanced users, and involves manipulation of autoexec.bat etc. No one has ever explained how to make an appropriate floppy disk to boot the Solaris 8 installation CDs.
I would greatly appreciate it if some kind guru in this forum could explain how to make the bootable installation CDs beyond just "read the help file." I've been searching through and reading the help files already, reading about the El Torito specifications, etc, but nothing helpful in explaining how to exactly make the bootable CDs appropriate for the Solaris 8 installtion .iso files downloadable from Sun.
Thank you very much in advance,
Pete

On response to above , I too was a litle confused on how Easy CD creator makes a bootable disk. How you do it is this.
Have the ISO image locally on you machine (for some reason this cannot be done on a ISO on the network)
Then open up easy cd creator and go to FILE-CREATE CD FROM IMAGE
It will then want you to point it to this image (your ISO)
Browse your machine till you find the folder your ISO is in , then change the file type to "ISO" below , I think it defaults to "ISF" or something.
Click OK and it will bring you back to the main screen and then just click create cd
Thats it! I scoured the web for all these hoops and trick and it was a simple as that , I overlooked it.

I tried twice, but easycd creator does not
seem work for me, and the above easy way
never happened :-(

I have the same problem creating the Solaris CDs from the ISO images. What about adding one of those "autorun.inf" files that other bootable CDs seem to have??
