Hi to all I have a sun Ultra 10 workstation with the following configuration
SUN ULTRA-10 Workstation
440 Mhz CPU
1024 MB RAM
40 GB HDD Seagate (Connected as Primary master)
Floppy drive
Samsung DVD Writer (connected as Secondary master)
CABINET
SMPS
Sun keyboard and mouseprobe-ide lists the drives connected properly
I inserted the solaris 10 installation DVD and at the OK prompt I issued the command boot cdrom
It reads the DVD, shows some messages on screen, Then the whole screen starts scrolling with junk characters just like a crash dump the system reboots and I get these error messages -
"Bad magic number in disk label"
"Cannot open disk label package""Boot Device: net file and args"
"Timeout for Arp/Rarp packets"
I have downloade the ISO image from Sun's ftp server almsot 9 times, burnt it at various speeds including the slowest and the fastest, it still gives these errors.I went to a nearby Sun authorised training center and tried the DVD there and it worked, I even took their DVD and also bought a DVD set from Sun online, even these do not work.
Any guesses what is the issue???? I am sure the DVDs are fine as they work on other Solaris machines of the same configuration.
For some reason I think I saw that answer somewhere. Don't know if it was update openbios or some issue with the drive. If I see it I'll post it.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

The msg seems to imply the cdrom is not bootable. It however could be a hardware related problem.
Check out the cables to the cdrom. A bad cable could be causing the issues.
Look if you can see the disk/cdrom with probe-scsi or probe-ide.
How is that DVD writer connected? You might be having issues depending on the connection? Have you tried another drive or connection?
