Comment: Hi, I am not able to log on as root on Sun Sparc Solaris OS with the command Su or Su - root either thru telnet or VT100. I am prompted for a password but i dont get the to the prompt after that. This is also happening when i am logging in as Su - "username". However after initaiating the telnet session i am able to directely logon as a user at the Login prompt. It gives me a blank return and prints on to the console whatever i type. Can anyone help. Reply: (edit)i'm not sure of how you are trying to log in. if you are trying to log into a machine as root but it is not permitting you it's probably blocked through /etc/default/login. for security reasons, this is the default state. to change it: uncoment CONSOLE below in # If CONSOLE is set, root can only login on that device. # Comment this line out to allow remote login by root. # # CONSOLE=/dev/console hope this helps
