hi, i am trying to install solaris 8 on my ultra 10. i am getting struck at the early part of the installation with the message "No Hard disks found on system". any help to solve the problem will be appreciated

Hrm.. have you taken the case off to check if you have power to the disk and that the ribbon-cable is connected ok?
If you do STOP+A and run probe-ide (or probe-scsi all if you have SCSI drive) do you get anything recognised at all?

hi, i tried probe-ide. it detects on my cd rom drive. i checked for the power cables to the hd, they all look fine... any pointers for my problem?

Go to ok-prompt. 1.) set-defaults 2.) reset 3.)show-disks Shows this command the disk? Yes - select it. Try to install Solaris, if this fail boot from CD and create one partition on the disk, label it -don't forget to save the layout- and make an newfs on it. And now try to install - it will work!
If 3.) shows you no disk, HDD will not recognise by system mabye disk has no power, defect or is not jumpered as cable-select.
