Hey everyone, I'm new to solaris, but I recently installed Solaris 8 (INTEL) and I just can't seem to get a NIC working, I have tried it with 2 NICs the 1st was a STARTECH 10/100 (I think it din't work because it's not compatible ) but then I tyried a 3Com Etherlink III ISA wich I beleive is on the HQL. When I run the un-config and then tell it that I want to network it, it always reverts back to the DOS interface and says BAD IP Adrress and a few other messages but then halts there.. and I need to reboot.. Would you guys happend to have any ideas? Lemme know,

Hi there, install networking, but do not configure your card yet. when solaris is installed, do the following: # ifconfig elx0 plumb # echo hostname >/etc/hostname.elx0 # echo "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx hostname" >/etc/hosts # ifconfig elx0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx mask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx up where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, is your IP address (or subnet mask as above) and hostname the name of your machine. I have a 3com etherlink III myself and it should work. Good luck and have fun
