Hi Everyone. Plz read the message.
Found 3Com Etherlink 3C905-TX NIC(S)
Installing driver......
"pci10b7, 9055"
("pci10b7, 9055") already in use as a driver or alias.
Postinstall: add_drv elbc failed
pkgadd: ERROR: postinstall script did not complete successfully.
Installation of failed.Does it mean that I already have a driver for my NIC? If not, tell me how I can install it.
I assumed that I already have the driver and tried to setup DHCP but I again got the error like:
primary interface requested but has not been setup.
If someone has used this NIC (3C905B-TX), will you please let me know the details about how to setup DHCP.
I also find that my Hostname is not being saved. I find my hostname as "UNKNOWN" after each reboot. What's going on??
Onething more, what to put as Domain name and IP while configuring my system?
Thanx
Ryan

Hi,
this is also a similar problem that I'm experiencing
if you find tyhe solution please les me know
I'm usin' Solaris 8 on an intel machine
& it behaves very funny at the second boot when I declare that its a DHCP terminal behind a Netgear Gateway Router RT311
I've got Linux & FreeBSD machines running behind my router but I can't get the flamein'
solaris 8 machine into the domestique network
Lookin' forward to hearin' from you
Good luckPeter Gavigan

ur nic card is already installed , in solaris 8 the nic 3 com ehterlink 3c905.txnic (s) . the driver of this card is
already installed is solaris 8 u just have detect ur card donot need to install driver from some another source . thats why ur getting error, cause it is already instaaled

If the message means the driver is already installed, then you should be able to run prtconf and see an instance of the device.
# prtconf | more
.........
XXX, instance #0If you see it in prtconf, then you should be able to plumb the interface.
# ifconfig [interface_name] plumb
If you can get that far without an error, then you could manually configure the interface and assign an IP address, netmask, etc., to confirm it works. I havn't set up DHCP so I can't help you with that.

donot worry about that error , so ur connecting via cable modem
actully the reason of giving u the hostname from the AT&T is that
they have an ip for this HOSTNAME u just need to enable dhcp client
because ur on client site. so use the following command to request for and ip add and donot worry about gateway and dns it will automaticaly
assigned to u thats the basicaly function of dhcp
NOTE : AS UR NIC CARD IS elxl0#ifconfig elxl0 dhcp
and in the next step
#ifconfig elxl0 dhcp release
