I am just about to start MCSE 2000 and have a pc running windows 2000 server(AMD-K6 500Mhz and 64mb). I'd also like to start reading into Solaris 8 and am looking to buy a laptop or a pc to install it. What minimum system requirements am I looking at for the new laptop/pc and can I also install windows 2000 professional on it and create a network, if so how? Help Me Please!!!

Hi,
go to http://docs.sun.com
at the search line look for hardware compatibility.Personnally I have an AMD K7 @500 MHZ, an STB 4400 Velocity SVGA (TNT2), and a Gigabyte Mainboard. NIC is a 3com etherlink III ISA card. the system works fine, except the desktop environment (GUI for solaris) won't start. but supposedly there are solaris drivers for the TNT2 at nvidia.com. I haven't tried them yet, though.
But you can always work in command-line mode.Laptop: I use a Targa Traveller 650. it works fine with solaris, except, again, the xserver (I have an ATI rage pro card in the laptop). as far as NICs go, try to get a 3com etherlink III pc-card for your laptop, since that one is definetely supported.
Have fun,
Stefan
