Hey guys HELP!!
I have lost the ROOT passwd to my Netra T1 running Solaris 8. I have followed other posts on here but they don't mention the problem I am having.
Once I boot from the CD I am getting the following prompt:
Type CTRL-D to proceed with normal startup,
(or give ROOT password for system maintainance.)I still need to give ROOT passwd and cannot get into edit the Shadow passwd file!! V Frustrating!!
Any help most appreciated!
CheersCammy

Hey dude do a stop +a then at the prom promt type boot -s this wil boot the system in single usermode and you dont have to suply the root password then you can change the password with passwd

Hey Sithlord,
I have tried what you suggest but its still coming up with the following:
'Type CTRL-D for to proceed with normal startup, (or enter root password for system maintenance'
Its a Netra T1 running Solaris 8.
Thanks
Cammy

try this
boot cdrom -s
this should get you to root.
after that you can change the passwd
you might have to mount your root partition in order to change it cause it will probably not let you if you dont mount it
use something like:
(you need to find out where your root drive is located, might not be c0t0d0s0)mount c0t0d0s0 /mnt
cd /mnt
ls (you will see the root partitiion of your netra)

You have to use cdrom 1 of 2 to recover root password
1. boot cdrom -s from ok prompt
2. mkdir /tmp/a
3. mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /tmp/a
4. cd /tmp/a/etc
5. TERM=vt100; export TERM
6. vi shadow
7. delete 13 characters from "root" line
8. reboot
This is the right way, the above were leaving a lot out. Send me an email if you want questions answer.
