Hi, i have an e250 server but unfortunately it was given to me without any login credentials and ive been given the task of rebuilding it.

I don't have any means of logging into it, so i cant log in as a lower level user to boot of a cd etc.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated

You don't need to be any user at all to boot a cdrom... from the "ok" prompt boot cdrom is all you need to do..

From a note by jayfoo earlier:

1: Insert Solaris CD in cd drive and from ok prompt run command: boot cdrom -s
2:This will take you single user mode
# fsck /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0.
Answer y to clear all.
3:mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
4:cd /a/etc
5:TERM=sun
6:export TERM
7:vi /a/etc/shadow
remove apssword form password field of root. and save file with wq!
8: cd /
9:unmount /a
10: init 6
You will be prompted for password for root.

Thing is, i don't have any ok prompt, i cant init 0 to get to that prompt all that faces me is a login prompt asking me for a username and password - neither of which i have.

I'm having to use terminal emulation to get into the box because it doesnt have a VGA card, im not sure quite how that limits my options...

OK. That puts a different spin. You need to do this at the OBP level, meaning not a telnet login. Your sun machine has a serial port ( 9 or 25 pin ) on the back. Connect a null modem cable between that and your pc running a terminal program like crt. You will be able to see all the boot up messages the next time you reboot. You need to issue a "stop-A" sequence from your pc which will give you and OK prompt. Try control-break-A or alt-control-break-A. It will depend on your terminal program. From there you can type "boot cdrom"
