Driving a Solaris machine is just like folks who wants to have their rectom signed with either BMW or Mercedes. They love to touch the tale pipe of BMW or Mercedes.

Driving a Linux is more likey folks who concern about performance/durability/fast-learning sort of Toyota/Honda.

The only reason so many unix admins hate "Linux" is because it will drop unix admin's salary from 6 digit to half of it as it gets more populated.

Or some folks got so much load of solaris training and don't want to loose their new job opportunity.

HP, SGI and DEC were all gone. I mean those good old days were gone! Wake up! You want to stay on Sun in order to keep your job safe and price, you will not be able to get a job few years from now on.

OK. down the road,

either you stay on Sun ang become a job-hunter
or work on Linux and get better future.

Wow! Talk about a religious flamewar starter.

I started on Linux (Debian GNU/Linux), and then moved into a Solaris admin position. My perspective makes my very much appreciate Debian over Solaris. If I had gone the other way, I'd probably prefer Solaris over Debian.

As someone else mentioned, it depends a great deal on what you want to accomplish. If you want a desktop *nix, I'd recommend Linux. If you want a reliable, low-cost server, I'd probably still recommend Linux. If you want a basic workhorse with support server, and don't need frills, Solaris might be your better choice.

One other point: it's been my experience that finding information/answers in the world of Linux is easier than in the world of Solaris. Although this list is very helpful, there just seems to be more info on the web concerning Linux than Solaris.
