I'm using a Linux laptop as a boot server and trying to Jumpstart a Sun box. Right now, they're connected via an Ethernet crossover cable. When I run 'boot net - install', I get the following message after a couple minutes:
Using RPC Bootparams for network configuration information
Configured interface hme0
ERROR: bpgetfile unable to access network informationI have rechecked my configuration a bazillion times, and had others look at it, but still can't figure out what's going on. I found a couple old posts here with this problem, but nothing was resolved.
Also, I noticed the last script to be run is S15nfs.server, which shares some stuff and then tries to start nfsd, mountd, rpc.bootparamd, and in.rarpd on the Sun (I think). But it looks like everything is where it should be.
I do a tcpdump and check my /var/log/messages file on the Linux box, but nothing useful shows up. They just stop communicating.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jay Vanover

Jay-
I believe your problem lies in the fact that the get_netmask call in the Sun scripts fails on linux. This call is found in the rcS script, in the ..../Tools/Boot/sbin directory of your jumpstart server.
There are two fixes. The first is to press control-c to break the blocking process. The other is to edit the script to hard code your subnet.
