Look in the /etc/rc3.d directory of the client. The script there are numbered so as they run in order. (e.g. s96.., s97...,s98...) After they run they delete themselves. I think that one of these scripts is failing for you. Look at the first script that should run (previous ones will have deleted themselves once they successfully ran). Look at the first script in there that should have deleted itself (check bottom of script). Try run that script. Do you get the same error. Go through the script and figure out where it fails. Run it line by line if you have to. Figure out where it fails. Follow the scripts and route out your problem. Possibly that interface you are trying to setup doesn't exist or something.
