I need to learn HP_UX.. I heard that Solaris is the close or the same as Solaris. Would it be a good idea if I download Solaris and install and use it to get familar with Unix? Thanks for any help, I need it :-)

hi , it is not the same. the commands are different. same with all flavors , I used hpux and aix and sun, all UNIX us similar but the commands are different.
yes you can download solaris to get the basics but if you want to really learn sysadmin of hpux you will need to practice on hpux.
thats my 2 cents worth anyway.......
I hope others will add thier opinions as well.

hi man, I hope it helped. yes I would istall solaris on a machine to get familier. its a good idea. but remember all favors are different is subtle ways and some not so subtle ways.........unix is a lot more work that linux.
and solaris is one of the most unfriendly ..but its getting better..........LOL.......
but yes ...good idea......I have solaris 10 X86 on the machine I have now.........so I can run either command line or a gui. I am not PURE linux Unix guy where I refuse to use gui I will use whatever tools make my life of sysadmin easier. one big big advantage of hpux and aix is that they ahve a took that you can use to admin the boxes that makes life a WHOLE lot easier in HPUX is called SAM you start is and you can basically admin the whole box via a menu list..........its very nice.........
