Is your machine set to receive its IP number from a DHCP server? If not, you can easily reset your network information by executing 'sys-unconfig' and answering the questions that follow.

The solution is quite simple. To have the system automatically assigned an IP Address to an interface upon startup, you may do the following:
(1) Most feasible: add /etc/hostname. file with IP Address info as data.
(2) Make a script to perform ifconfig commands.
(3) Modify the statup profile of the shell to plumb the interface. Of course, this would cause notification errors when the second and later shells log in...but it works!
