IP for second interface?

I would like to use my Ultra 5 as a router for my cable connection. I have everything set up but I need to add an IP address for my second physical interface (hme1) in /etc/hosts. But, I am using dhcp to get the address of my primary interface (hme0) so that IP changes. Any ideas on what IP I should enter for my second interface that runs to my hub?

Whatever you put on to your second interface, make sure it's in a different subnet or you'll be tearing your hear out.
So if your dhcp pool from your router or ISP is in the 192.168.1.0 network (purely example), then put your second interface in the 192.168.2.0 network with a /24 subnet mask.
If your primary interface is connected straight to the cable provider then you will be safe using a private IP address & subnet (eg: 192.168.10.1)
As long as all the other machines connected to it are in the same network then you should have no problems (I'm assuming you'll take the second eth interface out on to a switch or hub).
