I downloaded Solaris 10 for free to try to learn about Solaris. I know Linux fairly well and know some basic BSD stuff, but I'm a Solaris newbie.

I can't seem to get my NIC working. I have a laptop with an onboard Intel Etherexpress Pro 100, which is supposed to use the ieef driver, I think. "ifconfig -a" shows only the local loopback interface. "ifconfig ieef0 plumb" fails with "no such file or directory" and "ifconfig ieef0 up" fails with "no such interface". I configured all the other stuff (IP, router, etc.) correctly during setup. Interestingly, the NIC is detected correctly during setup. Also, I know it worked fine, no extra tinkering or anything, in Solaris 8.

I've given up on the laptop, which I'll be exchanging in a few days anyway, because I have Solaris working in VMware. My only problem now is X forwarding isn't working as expected. If I don't get it working, I'll start a new thread for that issue. Consider this question resolved.
