I have downloaded the Solaris 8 ZIP files for Intel (Install, Disk 1 and DIsk2 and DOCS) - as I am new to this - how do I go about installing Solaris 8 on an Intel PC - Do I need a boot floppy disk - if so please can you tell me where I can get hold of this - with thanks.

You may want to download the boot floppy s/w from the following site. Also down load the dd.exe software and then run this dd.exe on the boot floppy s/w. This will create a boot disk for you. Use that boot disk to boot (only if you do not have a machine that boots from the CDROM). I f you can boot from the cdrom then make CDROM images from the downloaded images and use the CDROM to boot. I hope this helps

Thanks for that. If I wanted to boot from the CD would it be as simple as just unzipping and placing/copying the bin files on the cd with their current extensions intact ? People are talking about ISO and I am bit confused.

Thanks.

hello

when i am installing solaris 8 intel ver on
celeron 400 machine intel chipset.
Installation progresses through the Configuration Assistance, it also detects the hardware and accordingly provide default drivers for them.It then asks for the source location for installation file , which is CDROM drive name. After this it gives protection arror and says rebooting...

Thus the machine hangs out.
Kindly, suggest me what can be the reason and solution for it.It is something concerning CDROM driver mismatch for solaris 8 intel ???

all of ur solution are appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Regards
nilesh
