Subject: Installing Solaris 8 on Dell Optiplex GX
Comment:

Hello,
I am unable to install Solaris 8 on my desktop. I am able to install Red Hat Linux 7.1, Windows 2000 and Windows 98 without any problem.

When I boot my system with Solaris floppy or CD (installation)

First I get a warning messege: Warning: ACPI tables not in reclaim memory

Then there is resouce conflict error:
Non-ACPI device PNP0C01:
Memory:....
ACPI device PNP0C01:
Memory:...

Finally when it asks to select DISK / CD ? Network for installation -
I get:
Type b [file-name] [boot-flags] to boot with options
or i to enter boot interpreter
or to boot with defaults'

>>

And it reboots and the cycle goes on.

Please see if some one can help me in installing Solaris 8
Thanks

I'm having the exact same problem with the Dell Optiplex GX150. I tried the drivers and instructions at the adaptec site pointed to above, but the system ignores the drivers and continues with the problem.

Any suggestions out there?

Wow.

This is a carbon-copy of my problem, only I'm on a Dell Optiplex 500SC.

What's the scoop?

Recieved a suggestion via e-mail to dissable the nic in the bios. The installation is then successfull. However, afterward we can't turn on the nic and networking. Also having trouble getting the display resolution past VGA. Anyone get further yet?
