Comment:

I tried to install the Companion CD to get the compilers to work. But when I put the CD in and go to folder /cdrom I don't see anything except 2 files. These 2 files exist even when the CD is rejected. Can someone show me how to mount it? Thank you!

Sorry.... forgot to ask this:

I got a used SparcStation 5 from a friend. This machine has no CD-ROM or floppy drive. When I turn it on... I hear couple beeps but I don't see anything on the screen. Is there some place where I can get some help on troubleshooting as well as re-installing the OS?

It'd be really helpful if I can find some help to run a non-solaris machine to hold the net installation image and do installation via network. Thanks all!

I'm totally green when it comes to Solaris beyond some C++ and UltraSparc assembly programming and Oracle queries I did at university. I received SparcStation 20 from a friend and installed Solaris 8 on it.

When your unit boots, press STOP + A to get to ok prompt. By typing "help boot" you will get all boot options including booting from network, CD-ROM, etc.
