Installation hangs after CD-boot
Name: bMF Date: May 21, 2006 at 13:41:50 Pacific OS: Solaris 10 1/06 CPU/Ram: 1.7 GHz / 256 MB Product: Compaq Evo N800v (Laptop)

I downloaded 4 ISO images (x86) from Sun and burnt them to CDs, and after I try to boot installation from CD 1, and select either item from GRUB menu (e.g. "Solaris"), I start getting standard messages on the screen: "SunOS Release 5.10 Version GENERIC-118844-26 32-bit, Copyright [...] Use is subject to license terms", that remains the last message on the screen. I was waiting and waiting and installation doesn't go any further. Although I had tried installing Solaris 10 from DVD few months ago on the same machine (laptop) and everything went fine; i downloaded "Solaris Installation Check Tool" and burnt ISO and after booting from it, the same thing happens: it hangs after the initial "Copyright message"... What to do? Why is this?? I haven't got DVD burner and Solaris DVD at this moment, so I need your help as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.
Yes, the CDs are OK, because i tried them on friend's computer (Desktop PC), and installation boots. I was searching for hours on google for similar issues and found that the new Solaris 10 1/06 sometimes needs ACPI to be disabled, with adding an option "[...] -B acpi-user-options=0x2" to the grub preinstallation menu, but nothing helps...
The CD *is* bootable, and it *boots* GRUB installation menu, but hangs on the second screen...

I see you downloaded the installation check tool, did you also use Suns download manager when downloading? I had a similar problem and I then downloaded the iso files using Sun's DM and all worked well.
No, I did not, but I tried and it seemed a bit complicated to me because i had to have Java or JDK installed and use java commands to start it up. I could try with that; but why then installation goes well on other machines, and not on mine? I tested this CD set on other computers and they are working...

Hi,
I had the same issue and I was successful by changing my disk configuration from striping to mirroring.
Summary: I spoke with a tech guy from Sun. He said: 1) most installations hang after the "Configuring /dev and /devices" stage because of the NIC (even if its on the HCL). He got me to remove it and everything...
