hmm... it seems that some other people have had the same problem when attempting to install solaris x86 on a demension 4100, it also appears that sun does not support it for use with x86.

i don't know if it will be possible to get this to install, but i hate to give up and there are a few things you could try...

the acpi refers to the power management/system information hardware on your motherboard, and the kmem_free message is normally associated with a bad or outdated driver.

first you should update the system bios to current level, you can download the necessary files from dell (make absolutely sure you have the correct file!!! follow the directions carefully, a mistake here could leave you with a totally inoperable system!!!)

after the bios is updated, boot the machine and enter the setup (bios)... here you will want to disable anything related to power management, also if you have an option for plug and play os installed set it to NO. while you are here, make sure the boot order sets floppy before cdrom.

if you don't allready have one, get a solaris boot floppy here:

http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/

you will need to edit the
/solaris/bootenv.rc file on the floppy and add the line:

setprop acpi-user-options '0x2'

save the file and exit...

now boot from the floopy (make sure the cd is in) and cross your fingers.

hope this helps

Which Solaris version are you using?. The earlier version is not compatible with Dell 4100.
