I tried install network card (3COM 905B-TX) in Solaris 8 on a PC(CPU--P4 Harddisk--15G Memory--256M),but I failed. 1)/etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost 10.0.2.31 solaris loghost 2)/etc/hostname.elxl0 solaris 3)/etc/netmasks 10.0.2.0 255.255.255.0 4)/etc/resolv.conf is empty 5)Restart my pc,the networkcard is found by Solaris. 6)ifconfig -a find no problem 7)But,I can ping the other Pcs,and the other Pcs can not ping my pc. BR.

I don't really understand your probleme. (excuse my english but i'm french). If you can ping the pc of your local network it's not normal that the other pc can't ping you. When you ping you send to the target an icmp packet and the target reply to you an other packet, so if you can ping a pc, the pc can ping you because the packet you have send was send to you by the other pc ! Try to modify the security level of system.

Hi ~ You say that you were NOT able to get your 3C905B-TX card working under Solaris8(IA)? Just curious, did you succeed finally...? I'm trying to get mine going, but have seen a lot of different sites with different bits of information. No doubt, it's harder than using a SPARC box. Were you able to locate a driver for this 3Com NIC...? Thanks - Seldom1757
