Comment:

I’m trying the installation of a new disk (SEAGATE 120 Gb) on a ultra 10 with a SPARC processor running solaris 7. I already installed the disk and the system detects the disk with no problems. When I run format to define the partitions on the new disk I saw the default backup partition on slice 2 with 17 Gb. I think that the system is assuming my disk just had 17 Gb. I don’t know if this is a problem with the platform or the OS and if there is any solution for this problem.

Thank’s…

Are you sure it's a new disk? Sounds like it already had a partition on it.

Try going back into format and selecting partition->modify->all free hog and see what it gives you as far as size.
