I am running Solaris 8 1/01 sun os ver 5.8 for IA (intel). Has anyone tried getting Ms Internet Explorer on solaris non-sparc? When I try to install it tells me there is an ')' error in line 1.

probably with WINE ( www.winehq.com )
It's some kind of run time library for windows ( not an emulator ). It works great with most windows apps

I have tried many times to get ie running, unfortunately it is architechture dependant. Unless you have the source code for ie to recompile for intel systems, then there is little chance you will get it running.

I run Solaris 8 on Intel also. Have you had any luck getting it to work? I don't have WINE or WinForLin! Thanks.

Hi, I've installed IE 5.0 on Solaris 8 8/2000(SPARC platform). It runs okay on Netra's but I had to comment out . $MSFT_HOME/bin/mwcheck_platform.inc in iexplorer script. From this link you can download it. http://www.microsoft.com/unix/ie/downloads/recommended/ie5/default.asp

The only version IE has is the Sparc version. Good luck to make it work on an intel processor ;)
