I am confused about RAID Manager 6.22 vs DiskSuite vs StorEdge Volume Manager 2.6. Aren't they all for doing RAID? Which ones are required to get an external A1000 set up for RAID?

I have a 420R with StorEdge A1000. Can someone tell me the sequence of software to install to get A1000 set up with RAID capability? Do I attach A1000 to the server at the very beginning of installing Solaris 8?

Appreciated!

The A1000 uses hardware raid, so you'll need SUNS Raid Manager software to configure it. You can get it here : http://www.sun.com/storage/software/raid_manager.html

The only thing you need is rm6. Which is specifically for A1000. After you bring up the user interface, the icons are pretty straight forward to use. I spent 10 minutes to figure out how to setup 2 volumes with raid 5.

No, you don't have to attach when you install OS. You can install the package for Raid Manager 6.22 when you need it. Then issue "boot -r" at the Boot Prom Ok prompt, this will rebuild the device tree.
